  1. Inflation Tax ^ this is a good article , you may find it pretty interesting Inflation can also produce a tax bonus for the government because of the way it affects wealth. If there is no inflation and a person has $10,000 in a savings account earning $300 a year in interest, the $300 is income because real wealth is increasing. But if the rate of price increase is 6%, then the real purchasing power of the $10,000 is decreasing and the $300 interest does not fully compensate for this. When inflation is taken into account, there should be a negative entry of $566 because the purchasing power of the original $10,000 has shrunk to $9434 in the second year. Thus the owner of this savings account has suffered an actual loss of about $266. However, the tax laws can and often do ignore the effects of changing real values, and the owner of the account may find that he pays taxes, even though in real terms (that is, in terms of purchasing power) he has no income at all.1 ^^ can anyone explain what does it mean ? So, putting money in saving account , actually leads to loss , if inflation rate is higher than interest rate on deposits??
  2. Dear Friends, Now I am working abroad and is planning to resign my job to attend coaching in delhi or elsewhere (whichever is the best). It is a big decision in my life as I am married and have a family to support. And I also know that cracking civils is possible for working professionals but my job is a little too demanding to prepare for civils in parallel. So I would like to request your kind help to select me the best institute for GS preparation. These three are the names which hit me after a lot of googling - ALS, Vajiram and Sriram. But I know there can be much differences in practice from what can be found in internet. So request your expert comments about this. Thanks a lot in advance guys... Warm Regards Anand

  20. So, the Assam-government decided not to oppose ULFA leader Rajkhova's bail, thus facilitating a peace-talk process. But same ULFA is responsible for killing thousands of innocent people. So what's the point in letting the top-leaders of an insurgent group go away scot-free? The only positive point : they promised to refrain from committing more violence. But what about the murder, kidnapping and killings they did for years?? Do they not deserve a punishment, do the victim-families not deserve some justice? Does it not send a message that if you kill a man for a petty reason, you'll be criminal, but if you kill thousands in pretext of doing insurgency, then you needn't worry much about the jail or consequences. Years ago, same case Lal Denga started a violent secessionist movement against the union of India, then became Chief Minister of Nagaland! What if tomorrow Kishenji or some other Maoist leader from the core-Committee gets arrested, and then he says "Yeah I too wanna peace-process dialogue if you bail me out", will he too be allowed to go away scot-free, and then run for elections?
