ELECTRONIC WASTE OR E-WASTE
e-waste is a waste type consisting of any broken or unwanted electrical / electronic appliance. this includes computers, tvs, mobile, any other items that have been discarded by original users. e-waste is toxic if treated & discarded improperly. the toxity is due to lead, mercury, cadmium & a number of other substances. a single computer can contain over 50 highly toxic metals & compounds in the over-1000 materials it uses.
TOXIC WASTE ARE :
- lead in cathod ray tube & solder
- arsenic in older cathode ray tubes
- selenium in circuit boards as power supply rectifires.
- polybrominated flame retardants in plastic casings, cable & circuit boards.
- antimony trioxide as flame retardant
- cadmium in circuit boards & semi conductors
- chromium in steel as corrosion & magnetivity
- mercury in switches & housing
