but gowri,
y have u put confused smilie?
were are u confused either in u r post or somewere else?
hello everybody
just wanted to share few points regarding the strategy to study in the beginning stages of the preparation.
1) Start off with reading the NCERT books for whichever optional you choose.
2)Collect material. (in my view starting with text books may confuse us as to what to read and what not to.)
Find out which institute is best for the optional choosen and order material from there.
3)After we get an idea about the order, books and topics to study, then proceed to text books.
Any corrections, suggestions, improv ements from those who crossed the beginning stage of preparation..![]()

hello gowri,
one correction please,
you have mention that for optinal start from NCERT, but NCERT are not available for Public Administration...
& Anish,
you have mention about what you are talking about, which optinal?
Putti...
I'm just beginning my serious preparations for civil service exam from this year. I thought to take sociology & english as my optinals(I'm doing my 2nd year B.A in English Litt). But last year when i consulted with some of my friends & a coaching centre, they suggested me that since the syllabus for english is very vast it's better to take some other subject as my optional. So now i'm going through different subjects to decide my optional, but not decided yet.
However i'm starting my preparations for the General Studies papers. For that i want to know which all NCERT text books should i refer and how should be the rest of my preparations...
Thanking everyone in advance...
Anish K. Joseph
choosing optinals is very important...
i dont think you get NCERT books for g.s..
for few optinals you get NCERT books...
you go through the prelims discussion forum you get many over there.
Putti...
Well,NCERT books for separate segments of GS (e.g. history, geo, polity, science & tech, biology) are definitely available. For the online copies, i think somebody has already submitted the link.
-regards,
soumen
