| THE ACADEMIES ESTABLISHED BY THE GOVERNMENT OF INDIA FOR ENCOURAGMENT OF ART, CULTURE & LITERATURE LALITH KALA ACADEMY This Academy was set up at New Delhi in 1954. Its Functions r: A ) To encourage exchange of ideas among various schools of arts. B ) To co-ordinate the activities of the regional / state academies. C ) To publish works of literature & foster inter-regional & international contacts through exhibitions,exchange of personnel & of art objects. Every three years, the academy organises Triennial India, an international exhibition of Contemporary art in New Delhi. The XIth Triennial India was organised in Jan-Feb 2005. SANGEET NATAK ACADEMY This academy was established in 1953 at New Delhi. Its functions is to conduct survey & research of different art forms in India. The Sangeet Natak Academy is presently an autonomous body fully funded by the government for implementation of its schemes & programmes. SAHITHYA ACADEMY The Sahithya Academy was established at New Delhi in 1954. Its aim is to encourage production of high class literature in several languages of India. It is also an autonomous body fully funded by the Department Culture. NATIONAL GALLERY OF MODERN ARTS It was started at New Delhi in 1954, for the purpose of preservation of famous art collection of India. Its function of the Gallery is to exhibit Indian Pictorial & Sculptural art from the period 1857 onwards. |
