Default Some short notes for GS mains

Briefly explain the following:
(a) Denatured DNA
(b) Centrifugal and Centripetal Forces
(c) Maastricht Treaty
(d) MPEG
(e) Balloon Angioplasty
Ans. (a) Denatured DNA: Deoxyri-bonucleic
Acid (DNA) is the
chemical basis for genes
and every inherited characteristic
has its origin
somewhere in the code of
organism’s compliment
of DNA. The DNA code is
made up of sub-units
called nucleic acid and
the sequence of four
nucleic acids is interpreted
by certain molecular
systems to produce the
proteins required by an
organism. DNA which has
been converted from double-
standard to single-standard form by a
denaturation process such as heating the DNA
solution, is called denatured DNA.
(b) Centrifugal and Centripetal Forces:
When a non-inertial rotating coordinate system
is used to analyze motion, Newton’s Law may
not apply unless a fictitious force called centrifugal
force is added. The centrifugal force
required in non-inertial system is equal and
opposite centripetal force in such an inertial
system. The centripetal force, on the other
hand, is the radical component of
the net force acting on a body when the problem
is analyzed in an inertial system. This
force is inward towards the instantaneous centre
of the curvature of the path of the
body.
(c) Maastricht Treaty: Maastricht Treaty is
a multilateral international agreement signed
by 12 European countries in the year 1992,
which resulted in establishment of the European
Union. Aim of this treaty was
to form a politically and
economically integrated
European economy,
including the reduction
or elimination of tariff
and non-tariff barriers. It
also resulted in creation
of a new common monetary
unit called Euro,
establishment of a common
military and defence
policy and a centralized
monetary policy.
(d) MPEG: MPEG
stands for moving pictures
expert group.
MPEG-1 normally refers to a format compressing
video with audio for playback from storage
media with low data transfer rates at VHS quality.
MPEG-2 refers to the format compressing
video with audio at broadcast quality resolution
for playback in higher data transfer rate
environment.
(e) Balloon Angioplasty: Balloon angioplasty
is diagnostic intervention which is
accomplished by using a balloon tipped
catheter, inserted through an artery in
the groin or the arm to enlarge the
narrowing of a coronary artery. Coronary
Artery Disease (CAD) occurs when cholesterol
plaque builds up on the walls of the arteries
