Hi Sandhya,
As far as I know, you can choose new optionals for your mains. But it is not advisable as you would have already put a lot of effort on your present optional and if you change it, you should begin the new one starting from the scratch. And also, I think you will not have enough time for this b4 the mains exam.
What was your optional and why do you want to change it..

i have just decided to take psychology & P.A. as optinals before.
but after seeing psycho's syllabus i wanted to shift it to sociology.
in psycho i dint still get proper notes. so only im thinking to change subjects. its very difficult for me to study psycho. & also i cannot complete within time limit, it takes lots of time to be spend.
& if i spend more time on psycho, when will i study my P.A. , g.s. & also indian languages.

first of all g.s. mains is huge & also difficult to prepare for it.
i still dont know which book to refer for g.s. mains. im in search of that.
i have just now subscribed for vajiram's p.a. notes. most probablely i may get it within next week.

Yes,
It is a wise decision to change the optional if you find a subject not suitable for your caliber. However, Psychology is a neat and crisp subject to be fair with it. It can fetch you more than 360 in a short span. However, as you do not have an inclination, you have rightly decided to quit it.

As Srinivas has stated, I would say, if it's your 1st attempt changing subject is a wise decision, but not so if it's not your 1st attempt.
