Question Compulsory Indian language

Dear officers,
I'm confused about the compulsory Indian language paper for mains........I'm not exactly good in Indian languages where speaking is concerned, however I got through with decent marks in my school examinations.........I was wondering what is one expected to know in order to get a good or decent mark in the examination. Is there some kind of syllabus?
And also, is it important to get a high mark or will they be assessing our command over the language.....
Thanking you

i see you are from Goa. so you must have read one of Marathi, konkani or hindi upto your high school. if you felt comfortable with indian language in your high school, you need not get tensed now. but do brush up your writing and presentation skills and improve your speed in writing. if you go through previous years papers you'll get a fair idea of what to prepare. dont worry. but please dont ignore as well.

the idea is to test your working knowledge of the language. you are normally asked to write an essay, may be work with a few idioms and language specific expressions, one comprehension, correcting grammatical errors(basic), synonyms and antonyms etc.
