tell them you are interested in this.
and its not that your IT experience is going in vein, because you will utilize it in making E-gov better wherever you are posted. and more things like that...

Well..I had made my previous attempt in 2005 and had missed interview call by merely 5 marks....that saddenned my a lot and I didn't appear for UPSC again.....since I'll become overaged next year so I thought of making 1 last attempt. As I could not get much time off my work, even this attempt hasn't been what I would have liked...

neways considering that I was not alone to be shocked by UPSC's drastic change in Mains pattern especially in Geography 1st paper...there is a hope that I might get an interview call.

As for why now after 6 years...well...I believe not many would disagree with my opinion that in terms of job satisfaction,IT industry surely is not the place to be,high salaries notwithstanding.

    Hi Anand,

Thanks for raising this question. I have seen this question being asked in several interviews in verious forms. Two things that we should keep in mind while answering this question are:

    1. Not to give an impression that we are a misfit in the IT industry. I have read interviews where the panel asked "So do you think you are a misfit for the IT industry?". If we give an indication that we are a misfit, they will extrapolate that we are fickle minded. They would ask what is the guarantee that we will not feel the same after we come into the services.
So, we can recount our achievements at our workplace to prove that we are not a misfit in the IT sector (if they ask the misfit question).

    2. We should not be too critical of the work in the IT industry. Probably, we could just say that though IT sector also influences many lives in a positive way (through spin offs), the services would provide us a more visible, direct chance to do the same and hence we want to be there.

    All,
If you find anything wrong in this or have suggestions on improving the answer, kindly comment.

    Thanks
    Pranay

Thumbs up Re: How should i answer this?

Anyhow you can escape, but what might be my case, i am a primary school teacher, and teaching profession is told as divine profession...
But we have capacity to do much more... We are interested in this profession and did our work and we want to do this in large scale...so we are joining civil service...
Yes, surely they (interview members) cross us at different level, by observing our language, fumbling, body language..and most possible mistake in attitude...
    So be prepared for it...
After few months you prepared for Civils you will feel something more in your brain to fulfill their cross questions..
    All the best
