1. I.B.R.D. = International Bank For Reconstruction & Development
It was established in the wake of the 2nd World War to help member nations in the economic reconstruction & development.
ITs Funds are derived from :a) payments made by member nations
b) sale of its bonds in different countries.
- >The bank both lends & borrows.
- > It encourages private foreign investment in under developed countries.
- >It may also guarantee loans by private investors.
- >Aid India club advances economic assistance to India under the Auspices of the World Bank.

Head quarter's = Washington
President = Paul Wolfowitz (USA, from 2005)

2. I.M.F = International Monetary Fund
It works for the promotion of international trade & helps those countries with foreign exchange, whose balance of trade is in unfavourable position.

The difference between the world bank & IMF is that the former lends while latter sells.

The IMF makes available the neccessary currency of a particular country in case of shortage.

It facilitates the balanced growth of inetrnational trade by short term credit.

Head quarter's = Washington
Managing Director = Rodrigo Rato

3. I.C.A.O = International Civil Aviation Organisation
It is affiliated to the world bank.
It encourages teh investment of private capital in underdeveloped countries of the world.

Head quarter's = Montreal (Canada)
President = Dr.Asad Kotaite ( Lebanon)

4. I.T.U = International Telecommunication Union
It was founded in 1965 .
It is concerned with co-ordinating the use of telephone, radio, telegraph throughout the world.
- >Intersatellite communication has also now come under its purview.

Head quarter's = Geneva
Secretary general = Yoshio Utsumi ( Japan)

5.W.M.O = World Meteorological Oraganisation
It aims at : improving weather observation.
To adopt common measures for weather-reporting in order prevent diaster caused by natural calamities like cyclones, typhoons.

Head quarter's = Geneva
Secretary general = G.O.P.Obassi (Nigeria)

6. U.N.I.C.E.F = United Nations International Chidren's Emergency Fund
It is the only organisation specially created to look to the children's welfare.
- > It seeks to wipe out children's diseases like malaria, t.b., diphtheria -- the diseases which take a heavy toll of life every year.
- > It is permanent body with its funds derived from voluntary contribution by nations & individuals.
- > It received the nobal prize for peace in 1965.

Head quarter's = New York
Executive Director = Ms.Carol Bellamy.

7. I.M.C.O = Inter Government Maritime Consultative Organisation
It has been created as a specialized agency of the UN
Its functions : to increase safety at sea
to help increase shipping facilities for teh expansion of international trade by sea.

Head quarter's = London
Secretary general = William O'Neil ( Canada)

8. I.A.E.A = Internatioanal Atomic Energy Agency
Its purpose is to promote teh use of atomic energy for peaceful purrpose so that the assistance rendered by it to member countries is not diverted for military purpose.

Head quarter's = Vienna (Austria)
Director General = Mohammad El Barachi

9. T.A.A = Technical Assistance Administration
Its purpose is to provide technical know-how to less developed countries in fields like agriculture, public health, engg etc.,

Head quarter's = Bangkok.

10. E.S.C.A.P = Economic & Social Commission for Asia & the Pacific
It is one of the regional commissions of the economic & social council of the UN.
It has been established for teh economic development of countries of Asia & Far East.

Head wuarter's = Bangkok.
