G8 countries are us, uk, japan, italy, france, canada, germany and russia. what initially started as G6 became G7 and G8 after canada and russia were included respectively. before russia was included, these countries represented the most affluent parts of the world.

Nominated 0 Times in 0 Posts TOTW/F/M Award(s): 0 | security council of Un has two types of members, permanent and non permanent. permanent members (5 in number) as the name suggests are permanent while 10 other countries are elected from member countries for two year periods. being apart of security council and getting permanent membership means that the country can veto any UN decision. presently only the P5 countries, US, UK, Russia, France and China have this previlige. when UN was formed, these counties were the most powerful and advanced and therefore it was felt that for any meaningful action of UN, the support of all these countries was required. therefoe the concept of veto was introduced. if any of these 5 countries did not like any decision of the UN, they simply can veto it. in the changed global scenario, india plays a vital role in the international politics. it is a nuclear power with great military might. it is a growing economy set to overtake many of the established industrialised countries, it has played key role in the past in the toughest UN operations and contributes decently to the UN. it as also the home for every sixth human on the earth and widely respected among the developing countries of the world. considering all these issues, india should get a permanent membership. and many countries including UK, france and russia are supporting india on this. the other G4 countries are also demanding permanent membership status. japan and germany on grounds that they are heavy contributors to the UN activities and that they are among the biggest economies. Brazil claims that it has size and population and also adds that US is the only representative from the american continents.
