Thumbs up Should India draft it's own policy for the reduction in greenhouse gases ?

With kind permission from our officer i would like to initiate a discussion over here.

Should India draft it's own policy for the reduction in greenhouse gases ?.We are alredy the world's fifth largest emitter, and will soon overtake Japan and Russia which are at nom. 3 and 4 respectively.
The responsibility for cutting the emmission can not rest with developed countries only,We have to show the initiative in this regard.
How long will India refrain itself and say that we are not in top four ?.

Thanks Satish.

I am completely agree with you.

India should intiate on this topic. We cann't wait for others to initiate and then to follow. So we should do the reverse one.

We cann't wait till we become first and It will be too late to react.

HELLO

Irrespective of whether how much we emmit or how much percentage we produce of green house gases we should draft our own policy for the emmission because we are the part of the world, we are not the isolate entity. we should act not like america which has refused to sign on kyoto protocol. We have to act in a distinctive way setting up the standards and paving the way for the good future.Unless we do it, we will cry for the step which we havent taken afterwards.

THANKING YOU

The Kyoto Protocol to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is an amendment to the international treaty on climate change, assigning mandatory emission limitations for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions to the signatory nations.

The objective of the protocol is the "stabilization of greenhouse gas concentrations in the atmosphere at a level that would prevent dangerous anthropogenic interference with the climate system."[1]

As of December 2006, a total of 169 countries and other governmental entities have ratified the agreement (representing over 61.6% of emissions from Annex I countries).[2][3] Notable exceptions include the United States and Australia. Other countries, like India and China, which have ratified the protocol, are not required to reduce carbon emissions under the present agreement.

Some Important facts are:

Opened for signature December 11, 1997 in Kyoto, Japan
Entered into force February 16, 2005.
Conditions for entry into force 55 parties and at least 55% CO2 1990 emissions by UNFCCC Annex I parties.
Parties 169 countries and other governmental entities (as of December 2006)

India signed and ratified the Protocol in August, 2002. Since India is exempted from the framework of the treaty, it is expected to gain from the protocol in terms of transfer of technology and related foreign investments. At the G-8 meeting in June 2005, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh pointed out that the per-capita emission rates of the developing countries are a tiny fraction of those in the developed world. Following the principle of common but differentiated responsibility, India maintains that the major responsibility of curbing emission rests with the developed countries, which have accumulated emissions over a long period of time.

Major green house gases are water vapour(36-72%), mathene(4-9%), Carbon di oxide(9-26%), ozone(3-7%).Certain gas causes a certain percentage of the greenhouse effect, because the influences of the various gases are not additive. (The higher ends of the ranges quoted are for the gas alone; the lower ends, for the gas counting overlaps.) Other greenhouse gases include, but are not limited to, nitrous oxide, sulfur hexafluoride, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons and chlorofluorocarbons (see IPCC list of greenhouse gases).
