| INTER - GOVERNMENTAL AGENCIES OF THE U.N.O 1. F.A.O = Food & Agricultural Organisation It was founded on October 16 1945. Its Aims R : i) to improve the world's food supply ii) to improve the condition of people in rural & urban areas iii) to control & prevent plant & animals diseases iV) to suggest measures for more efficient agriculture , fisheries , forestry V) to help people fight hunger & malnutrition Head quater's = Rome Director General = Jacques Diouf (Senegal) 2. I.L.O = International Labour Organisation It was created under the terms of the treaty of Versailles as an indepndent organisations of the League of Nations. Later it came to be affiliated with U.N. Economic & Social Council in 1946. It Aims at : 1. Improving labour conditions 2. raising their standard of living & promoting social & economic stability through the joint efforts of government management & labour. Head quarter's = Geneva Director general = Juan Somavia ( Chile) 3. W.H.O = World Health Organisation It came into existence on april 7 1948. Its Aim is : to assist governments to raise the standard of public health & dis-semination of information of health research. Head quarter's = Geneva Director general = Jong Wock Lee (S.Korea) 4. U.N.E.S.C.O = United Nation Educational, Scientific, & Cultural Organisation Its aim is : to promote inter-governmental co-operation in the fields of education,science,culture, in order to foster the forces of peace & security. It looks after human rights & fundamental rights freedoms irrespective of race,sex,religion,language etc., Head quarter's = Paris Director general = Koichiro Matsuura (Japan) 5. IFC = International Finance corporation It is affiliated to the world bank. It encourages the in vestment of private capital in underdeveloped countries of the world.
