    Thumbs up Map questions

    Hi all , in geography prelims map reading is very essential. Why don’t we start preparing now and share the points so that the preparation gets easier .. so I ll start with the African continent…… pls correct me if am wrong anywhere and add your points to it.hope this will be useful
    AFRICA
    • Highest peak in Africa- mt.Kilimanjaro in Tanzania
    • Second highest peak – mt.Kenya
    • Horn of Africa-Eritrea,Djibouti,Ethiopia,Somalia
    • Coco triangle- Accra, Kumasi,Tokaradi
    • Largest HEP of Africa-in lakeKariba of R.Zambezi
    • Nigeria is called the land of palm oil
    • Katanga plateau of Botswana is rich in copper and diamonds
    • Bushmen tribes –Kalahari desert
    • Owen falls-R.Nile
    Aughrabi falls-R.Orange
    Boyoma falls-R.Congo
    • Mt.Cameroon is the only active volcano in Africa

    hei sai could u sugest which atlas i should follow 4 the maps tell a atlas which is benificial 4 both history & geography

    hi sri , rather than relying on single atlas it is better to have two.I think it is better to buy Orient longman and TTk

    source of Blue Nile-L.Tana
    the place of confluence of white NIle and blue nile is KHARTOUM(the capital of Sudan)
    * L.Volta of Ghana is a man made lake
    *R.Zambezi traces the boundary between Zambia and Zimbabwe
    *R.Zaire cuts the equator twice

    Atlas mountains are fold mountains .The highest peak of atlas mt. is Toubkal.
    Qatara depression- oasis in Egypt
    Kufra Oasis- Libya
    Bie plateau-Angola
    Okavanga swamps-Botswana
    Loma Mts.-SierraLeone
    Bauchi plateau-Nigeria

    *St. of Gibralter- connects meditaranean sea and atlantic ocean
    *St. of Bab-el-mandeb - connects Red sea with Gulf of Aden
    *Victoria falls of R.Zambezi are formed due to faulting
    *Aughrabies falls and Livingstone falls are Plateau waterfalls
    *largest tribal population of Africa - is in Nigeria
    *R.Limpopo cuts the Tropic of capricorn twice
    *Pemba Is, Zanzibar Is,Mafia Is - belong to Portugal
    *Canary Is - spain
    *Important Bays to note -- Walvis bay, St.Helena bay, Algoa bay, Maputo bay
