Smile Mathematics and Electrical engineering as optionals

Hi All,

I thought of choosing Mathematics and Electrical engineering as optional subjects because I am interested in Maths and my graduation background is Electronics and Communications engineering.

Can any one suggest whether these two are good combination or do i need to choose the non technical subject like Public Admin as optional.

Please suggest so that i will be able to decide my optionals and start my prep as early as possible.

Thanks,
Raaga.

Hi Ragga
chose only these subjects if you are strong enough to compete Post grd's & IIT'ns people
because these subjects are both required strong fundamentals .

wats the scaling concept of marks in maths.
why do ppl score so low in maths.
does upsc scale them or is it the writing style that matters.
plz give a clear picture.

I too have just started stepping into this zone, so can't guide you but can atleast share my views. Well! me too...an E&TC engineer and then did MBA (marketing)..now wrking in a top IT MNC.
I feel no one but only you can decide which subject is good for you. I have chosen matematics and elec engg, not only on the basis of interest but also after having a look at the syllabus and few Q. papers of those subjects. That helped me a lot to zero on these 2 subjcts. Plus maths I feel is scoring too and is a familiar field for me.
Hope this may help you too...
All the best!

Thumbs up Re: Mathematics and Electrical engineering as optionals

<
Some like Mutyala Raju had cracked it..i have friends who're into IES and have single digit rank in GATE though they have these optionals in civils they personally suggest never take it ...

non engineering subjects like public administration, geography, psychology, sociology are better...unless u r very sure u r in the top in ur engineering discipline...it is a bit difficult considering the vastness of syllabus and the chances of getting through scaling of UPSC considering the number of people who take it...

everyone has his own inclinations so better take self decision after seeing Syllabus and Q paper of previous years..
may be u might also want to have a look at what are the average scores in mains of the optional u r planning ..

but interest is the only thing that must be the final criterion (though u have to spend time to look at other subject to see if it interests you more)...

hope it helps and all d best
