Till date I have been able to find just one study material - Brilliant Tutorials. But I have no idea about its effectiveness for the exam. Sometime back I was able to find the list of books for this papers, and all I could understand was that - its too time consuming. So, if any of you have any idea about the Stats as a mains option, please do contribute to this discussion. Thanks & Regards Sarsij

Even they have discontinued supporting for Statistics now. I think standard books are the best options we have. As an optional, success ratio in Mains is 1:22 or poorer but no such data is available for Prelims. Anyone with ideas on how many students generally take this up for Prelims and what has been the general level of cutoff for Stats optional in prelims?

I'm a B.Pharm and we had statistics in 2nd year, so for a while, I prepared with Statistics as my optional. (when i was in college but i've never appeared with Stat as my opt. in real UPSC exam) For paper 1 i used to the std books & finished syllabus which i found quite short and very easy. but I found the paper-2's topics quite difficult so I bought the old Brilliants material of Stat- its a way too big and has too many things which really aren't necessary for UPSC. (its a Brilliants' old habit of writing down a lot unnecessary reference stuff so increase the 'quantity') then i got bored and figured out that i can never clear UPSC with this because I was unable to master the topics of paper-2. so, I changed my subject to Public Administration. anyways, that doesn't mean people with stat don't get selected. stick to the standard & well known books, study the old papers and prepare your strategy accordingly, work hard-revise hard- consult some old experienced stat professor to master your skills. and success will be yours.
