Default one of the largest batch of IPS this year.

In 2006 batch, there has been 103 Indian Police Service vacancies. It is one of the largest batch of IPS in recent years.

Hope this trend continues.

What's the reason? If I understand correctly then Indian Government (Gov) doesn't increases the seats in Civil Services (even if it increases then it won't be more then 1% ) and as part of ICS Gov tries to fill in the vacant posts. So, does 103 IPS mean that the attrition rate is high? Could you please give us a break up on how many IAS/IPS/IFS positions we have and what % gets vacant each year? Tx.

The department/Ministries communicate the vacancy position to the DoPT, and DoPT in turn notify it to UPSC to select the candidates. Thus UPSC, in effect has no knowledge of the vacancy split. It is all most pre-rogative of the DoPT. At one point of time the intake of IRS used to be in 100's which now is all most in double digit only.

Especially with All India Services, it is a complex process, as many states have departmental quota as well as Direct recruit quota. If one remains unfilled, it is done by the other quota. So in a particular year if the IPS posts remained un-filled by Departmental Quota (promotees), then those posts may be carried for the Direct recruitment quota.
