Heard about Spectrum's Mordern India and Bipin Chandra

Which one is the best book available in the market for Mordern India and History (For GS -UPSC Preliminary Examination n Mains )

I am also an Indian Administrative Service Aspirant and my optional is History. These are the books which i suggest..

Modern India:

Step 1: Read NCERT of 12th, but remember to read the old NCERT by BIPIN CHANDRA.

Step2: After NCERT read BIPIN CHANDRA "INDIA'S STRUGGLE FOR INDEPENDENCE" (1857-1964)

NOTE: BIPIN CHANDRA is like a novel which has a follow because of which u would always be involved in reading. But it is a MUST READ.

Step 3: Read GROVER and GROVER "MODERN INDIAN HISTORY" (1707-1964)

NOTE: GROVER and GROVER is specifically designed for Union Public Service Commission EXAM. In this book U will find facts accumulated at one place which is MOST IMPORTANT for PRE. But remember read Bipin Chandra before reading Gover and Gover.

Step 4: After Gover and Gover read last 15 years MAINS question paper with ANSWERS "REFER CHRONICAL"

NOTE: Reading last 15 years question will strengthen ur knowledge for MAINS, because u will become capable of interlinks topics to one another.

Step 5: At last solve test series for PRE exam, like Wizard, Tata McGraw Hill "GENERAL STUDIES" Guide/Manual, Last 15 years preliminary papers.

This is my strategy toward History, but it is just a suggestion and not a compulsion. Everyone can script his/her way of studying.

I think the another book by bipin Chandra would also be needed - India Since Independence - Seniors please suggest !!

Yeah read NCERT XII - Modern India by Bipin Chandra (OLD Edition). That would lay the foundation. After that, you read any book, there'll be value-addition

I feel spectrum modern India will suffice for Pre+Mains. I have read the whole book once and I was able to attempt almost all questions from past 10 years.

I am heavily relying on spectrum's modern india for pre+mains. Ncert I will pick in spare time.

Is NCERT 12th text(Old 1 by Bipin chandra) + spectrum also ok? I guess since BC's India's Struggle is like novel can pick up later too...Please correct me if I'm wrong
