Syllabus change from CSE 2013

I heard that the syllabus of CSE is again going to change from the year 2013. The optionals would be scrapped and there would be a common paper for all inheriting Pub. Ad. in it's syllabus. Is this true? Can anyone confirm?

i heard the same thing from a friend of mine who is Indian Police Service probationer but i am also not sure,besides i hv read a parliamentary committe report on net that optionals wiil be scraped but they didnt provide timeline also was recommendations regarding no of attempts and age and essay xam.
SO PLZ ANY1 WHO IS SURE OF THESE THINGS PLZ CONFIRM IT...as i hv 2 appear 4 1st time in 2013 only

A piece of advice. Take Pub.Admin. as one of the optionals. And do not worry about the Mains pattern in the next two years. It will come in the news when the decision is made.
Unnecessary speculation will lead to wastage of time & a lot of tension.

From 2007, I had been hearing rumors every year that optionals are going to be removed from UPSC Preliminary Examination. But it was finally done only in 2011. [Union Public Service Commission official announced it only in 2010-end]

It is true that optionals will be scrapped from mains as well, but from which year exactly? =Impossible to tell unless the Union Public Service Commission notifies itself.
And they've a knack for keeping things secret and ambiguous till 11th hour to deter the coaching classes from getting any advantage out of it.

Somewhr someone mentioned tht its going to happen from 2015 !!!!!

Seems more reasonable, as 2013 is too early.

Thanks for your feedback everyone. The conclusion which I've drawn from your replies (there isn't a common consensus) is that nothing has been put forward clearly by Union Public Service Commission committee on this issue yet.

Hi Bobby,
There will be no change in the Civils from 2013.Recently they have altered the pattern in UPSC Preliminary Examination only from 2011.The Union Public Service Commission have to wait to change the pattern for the mains even for 4 to 5 years. So, there will be no change in the pattern in 2013. But it will be after 5 or 6 years from 2011.

I find everyone preparing for 2012 and 2013 well in advance at the age of 21 itself. But in my case, I have only two attempts left, viz. 20012 & 2013.
How can I avoid obsession of thoughts and anxiety? It's very necessary to clear in 1st attempt. Else........

I find everyone preparing for 2012 and 2013 well in advance at the age of 21 itself. But in my case, I have only two attempts left, viz. 20012 & 2013.
How can I avoid obsession of thoughts and anxiety? It's very necessary to clear in 1st attempt. Else........

Just a few thoughts, if I am allowed to comment on this.

You have TWO great chances to experiment with. Anything can be done in these two years. You are not alone in the race. Lots of people are anxious. The more WILL you have, the more will you succeed. Diligent preparation for a year is enough to crack the exam.
Lot of people from IO cleared it in the very first attempt and that too without any coaching.
There is no reason to be anxious. After all, you will be gaining immense knowledge than most people in this world during the preparation. And believe me, there is nothing to lose.

jack sparrow it's easier said then done, officially though i can give the exam right till i am 30 (around 6 yrs more!) i have only 2 attempts 12 and 13.. thus anyone have any idea of what actually is going to be the change?
pub adm compulsary is what i hear...
if they scrap an optional (i am sure it's positive for me), but won't they add something?
are they gonna keep bith mains and UPSC Preliminary Examination and GS the same?
i know none of us know, Union Public Service Commission suprises us, but we may know the reccomendations, right???

@subodh, yep even i have 2 attempts and i am just starting at the verge of 24!
it doesn't matter how many attempts we have, just give ya best, and don't let anxiety take away the best from u!

@Shamishtha Well, if at all they change the pattern in 2013, you will still have time to prepare for it. Also, you are not alone.
Surprises are good things one way or other. The best way to remain positive is not to bother about something of unknown probability and focus the things on the plate right now!

I dont think there will be a change in mains pattern in near future..as the Union Public Service Commission has come up with new UPSC Preliminary Examination pattern this year, they would desperately want to make sure that it is flawless and in line with their objectives. Until and unless everything is perfect with UPSC Preliminary Examination they cant go and change the mains pattern and end up in a chaotic situation..

You may not require my views on that question of yours, but nostalgia kicked in and I could not help but reply. I have a small story to tell.

When I was staying at the hallowed Rajendar Nagar Colony in New Delhi along with my parents during my 2 years of preparation, I often had sleep less nights, thanks to the weather, the food, the intense study methods and pressure. All were new to me.

My dad used to travel back to our home town once every month to look after the business. It was that time of the month when only me and mom were at home. It was about 2:00 AM that night when me and mom were deep in sleep and everything was silent. I suddenly woke up, stood up, was sweating profusely, had very high temperature and was talking out aloud, I still remember it ws something related to Geography and barged out in the balcony

Just imagine the plight of my mom. Dad was not at home. She couldn't realize what was happening in the heat of the moment. She shouted out my name until I came back to my senses. I then saw myself standing in the balcony, back in my senses, with my mom fretting in anxiety. She started to cry.

I realized I had to act and told her a story that the peon at Vajiram and Ravi told me the previous day.

There was this guy called Pradeep hailing from a rural area in Andhra Pradesh. He was a hard worker and diligently attended all the classes. As he had difficulty in paying the fees, his friends pooled in some money and helped him out. Just the day before UPSC Preliminary Examination that year, his father expired in an industrial accident. He had the guts to stay back, write the exam and then leave back home. He did his duties, came back to Delhi, started preparing for Mains and quite deservedly, cleared UPSC Preliminary Examination. He went back to visit his mother a month before mains and while he was there, he lost his right hand in an accident. 4 months later, he comes back to Vajiram, sits in the same class, starts learning to write with his left hand and is applying under the Ph category.

Now, I cannot vouch for the veracity of this story, but let me tell you one thing, the very fact that we sit in our homes, access the internet, type with our two hands and watch replies posted with our two eyes, makes us exceptionally lucky people, perhaps sitting in the top 1% of the luckiest people in this world.

Lets make sure we make the best use of it.

And yes, my mom stopped crying.

And last me ye 2013 mains syllabus change ke chances r very low, but hua bhi to it will be helpful, they will hav only 4 GS papers afterwards(sunne me aya h aisa), and mere jaise log who loves GK, IR, Geo and History......nothing better thn this !!!!

Ain't that the truth...we really ARE lucky people in that sense. And I feel that the nature of this exam puts a lot of people through such tough times that it inculcates a sense of humility in at least some of them. It's a different matter that this humility is quite short lived in most cases, despite all the good intentions that people start out with.
